Financing

The realization of this unique project is expected to require significant investment. Revenues will be generated by selling high-quality products and services, private expenditure of the ecovillage settlers, membership-fees, donations, and public subsidies for example in the areas of education, research and regional development.

What is to be financed?

1. Running project costs

The team members currently work on a voluntary basis. Since the time required for KEIMBLATT ÖKODORF will multiply as the project advances we have to provide for a economically sound fundament. Besides future personnel costs, the running project costs also include costs for materials, running costs of the project center and external services.

Since this is the first ecovillage to be established in Austria there is a high degree of public interest which is why we calculate with high revenue from membership fees and donations.

Furthermore the team members as well make use of their various individual capabilities and skills in order to support the association by selling services and products (further training, consulting, alternative medicine, cultural events, sales of organic food, furniture, musical instruments etc.)

2. Project center

The project center was bought in the fall of 2004. The credit given by a private person allowed for this purchase. With aid provided by support members we were able to accomplish the most urgent adaptation work in the project center we had just moved in.

3. Ecovillage grounds

The next step is to find a suitable location for the ecovillage. During this phase we will intensify existing co-operations on many levels and look out for new possibilities.

The “Maria Theresia Foundation Vienna” will finance the ecovillage property.

4. Ecovillage facilities

All villagers are members of the village cooperative. With their one-time cooperative deposit and with revenue generated from the creation and participation in eco-social ecovillage ventures they will finance the community facilities such as event venues, telework offices and canteen kitchen as well as development expenses. The community facilities will be maintained through the monthly cooperative fees.

The costs for the construction of private facilities (mainly residential buildings) will be expended by the villagers and/or the neighborhoods themselves.
